Three states to launch anti-bandit operations

India's News.Net
Friday 4th July, 2008 (IANS)

Police officials of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Wednesday evening decided to coordinate combing operations along the borders and in the Chambal ravines to contain the menace of bandits, an official said Friday.

Raghuvir Lal, Agra's senior superintendent of police, told media persons Friday that the meeting was attended by circle officers and station house officers of police stations along the borders of the three states.

He said that Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan police have already forwarded them a list of criminals wanted for various crimes.

Joint combing operations will be launched on a daily basis.

The Rajasthan police have announced an award of Rs.1 million on Jagan, a dreaded bandit.

A police official said this was the first time that officers of the three states have worked out a joint strategy to curb crime.

This has come in the wake of a spate of kidnappings and high-profile murders in the districts of Dholpur, Morena and Agra.
