Fingers wag after city trader survey

British researchers have found a longer ring finger than an index finger signifies a more successful financial trader.

A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has found the length ratio between the index finger and the ring finger is a measure of prenatal exposure to male hormones, which give male traders increased confidence and reaction times.

The concentration and reflexes needed in high-end financial trading were evaluated after researchers measured the fingers of 44 male traders in the City of London.

After correlating finger length ratio to the traders' profits and losses during the preceding 20 months, the researchers concluded that the correct finger ratio predicted higher long-term profitability and longer careers in the business.
