Agra's oldest resident Braj Mohan Lal Khandelwal died Tuesday evening - less then a month from his 110th birthday, a family member said.

Khandelwal, born Oct 2, 1900, was ailing for some time, family member Sudhir Gupta said.

Khandelwal is credited with opening Agra's first petrol pump, the National Auto Supply Company, at Baluganj in the cantonment area in 1928. Before that, petrol used to be supplied in jerry cans.

Khandelwal, a philanthropist and businessman, had set up several educational institutions in the city as well.
